Inter centre back Diego Godin spoke with club broadcaster Inter TV following Inter’s 2-1 win in their Coppa Italia quarter final clash with fellow Serie A side Fiorentina on Wednesday night at San Siro.

Antonio Candreva gave Inter the lead on the stroke of half-time but Inter were pegged back level as former Juventus man Martin Caceres headed home. The score was not level for long though as Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella put Inter back in the lead with a half volley from outside the box.

Godin, who joined the club this past Summer, firstly reflected on the overall performance and shared his delight at the team’s progression to the next round.

“We got on well with the 3-4-1-2. Fiorentina defended well and it was not easy for us to find spaces and create chances to score but we persevered and in the end we won and now we are in the semi finals.”

Next he spoke on Barella’s goal.

“The second goal is a good goal. There is a lot of work behind our every action. We prepare all the moves in both phases during the week. Today we did very well defensively. This is the right path and we must continue on this path.”

The experienced defender, who is under contract with Inter until the end of the 2021/22 season, has now made 21 appearances across all competitions to date.

In 1545 minutes on the field, the former Atletico Madrid captain has provided a single assist and helped the team to keep six clean sheets.
