Inter are looking to bring in Dries Mertens on a free transfer this Summer according to a report from Italian news outlet Il Mattino.
The Belgian international’s contract with Napoli is due to expire at the end of this season and Napoli are keen to tie him down to a new deal but for the time being his representatives have not engaged in talks.
Napoli are ready to offer him a two year contract extension with an annual salary of €3.5 million but it is understood that Mertens is understood to be holding out for €5 million a season in what could prove to be his final big contract of his playing career.
The 32-year-old forward, who is on the verge of becoming Napoli’s all time record goalscorer, has made 22 appearances across all competitions to date this season. In 1425 minutes on the park, he has scored nine goals and provided four assists.
