Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has confirmed that the club want to reach the Coppa Italia final moments ago in an interview with Italian broadcaster Rai Sport ahead of the first leg of Inter’s Coppa Italia semi final with Napoli, which is due to kick off just shortly.
“We want to give our best and do our best and at this point, that means reaching the final. We want to give life to a winning model. We must remain humble, work hard and focus on the details, as that’s what makes the difference,” the former Juventus executive explained.
Marotta proceeded to celebrate the huge attendances that the club have been able to achieve this season and in recent seasons which have been unrivalled in Italy.
“These are important numbers for Italian football. Our fans expect important achievements and the Coppa Italia is now within our reach. We want to get to the final but of course we must show great respect to Napoli tonight.”
Next he went on to discuss what the situation is with Emiliano Viviano, who has been training with the club in the past few days and could be signed up due to club captain and number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic’s injury.
“At this moment, we don’t want to leave any stone unturned. In light of Handanovic’s unavailability, we evaluated the scenario. We contacted Viviano and we were very clear, we will evaluate things carefully in the next few days.”
Next he spoke on how tight knit the team is and how important it is for what the club are hoping to achieve.
“The compactness of the group is decisive for a winning model. I don’t want to refer to last year, there are years that have more problems than others. We made corrections, respecting the professionals. Conte instilled a sense of belonging in the team.”
In conclusion Marotta reiterated the club’s desire to compete in all the competitions they enter and win silverware.
“There is great satisfaction because we have created a model that honours a club like Inter Milan. Inter takes part in competitions to win them. The icing on the cake would have been qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League but we have been eliminated and we take note. The model is to participate to win.”
