Inter Defender Biraghi: “We Didn’t Deserve Defeat, Everything Is Still Open”

Inter wing back Cristiano Biraghi has insisted that the team need to get over the 1-0 loss to Napoli in the first of their two legged Coppa Italia semi final with them right away.

“We are a great team used to playing every three days, we need to forget about the mistakes and start again immediately,” he told the gathered journalists in the mixed zone at San Siro after the match last night.

Next he was asked if he and the team were tired as a result of the efforts they put in in the second half of the Milan derby as they came from 2-0 down to win 4-2.

“Yes but we must not make it an excuse. We will start again and Sunday’s match against Lazio will be an important game and as far as the Coppa Italia is concerned, everything is still open.”

Biraghi then stated that the team believe they can overturn the tie and go on to win in the return leg.

“We believe in overturning it as we won 3-1 in the league against them. We know how to score, we are an important team that can win everywhere whether it be home or away. We had our chances, we were unlucky and we didn’t deserve defeat.”

He then spoke on how difficult it was to break down Napoli with the way that they set up for the match as they focused on defending first and foremost.

“Ten of them sat behind the line of the ball, they tried to defend and they did it well so congratulations to them. We perhaps could have made better use of some chances when we managed to get close to the box, but it was not easy.”

In conclusion he was asked if he thinks the 4-2-3-1 system that the team used near the end of the match could be used more often in the future: “I don’t know, I’m not the coach.
