Inter wing back Cristiano Biraghi has admitted he is confident that the team can win in the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi final against Napoli despite losing 1-0 in the first leg on Wednesday night at San Siro.
“We didn’t deserve to lose, but we are only at the half way stage, there is still the second leg to play. There have been many games this season where teams have defended and we won but tonight [last night] it did not go like this,” the Italian national team defender explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Rai Sport.
“We were unlucky with some chances, Napoli defended well. The tie is still fully open, however. We beat Napoli 3-1 in the league. We can win there again and progress to the next round.”
He then went on to speak about the continued absence of number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, who has missed Inter’s past three games due to a hairline fracture in the small finger in his left hand.
“We have faith in all the players in the group. We are happy with Padelli because he did well in Udine, we have faith in him. Samir is our captain and we all know how strong he is. But we are also calm with Daniele in goal.”
He was then asked if he thinks a spark was missing in the match.
“Each player has their own characteristics, maybe I could have assisted the attackers more but I will analyse things together with the manager.”
In conclusion he spoke on how he feels that the team need to improve in certain areas and work out how to deal with teams who play how Napoli did against them.
“When teams defend so much, it is difficult to find spaces and put good balls in. The team and I must improve in this regard. We must find the key to bringing down the teams that defend themselves in this way.”
Biraghi has made 21 appearances across all competitions to date this season. In 1364 minutes, Biraghi, who joined Inter on a season long loan from Fiorentina in the Summer, has contributed four assists.
