Inter Legend Bergomi: “People Have To Be Patient With Eriksen, Lukaku Is A Positive Example”

Inter legend Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has stressed that people need to have patience with Inter new boy Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen was granted just his second start since his arrival in the recent January transfer window from Tottenham Hotspur against Ludogorets last night and repaid the faith shown in him by Inter manager Antonio Conte by scoring his first goal for the club.

Despite his goal, it remained evident that Eriksen is still in the process of adapting to his new surroundings, something Bergomi believes will just take time.

“If you give him the ball he can handle it well and give it to you at the right team. Conte stimulates him, to play under him Conte need to be in good physical condition,” the former Italian national team defender explained whilst in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia earlier on today.

“The goal will have helped him but people have to wait for him, you have to be patient and understand what system he can perform best in. He played as a midfielder in a 3-5-2 but I think playing him closer to the opposition goal would be better.”

Bergomi then went on to speak about Inter striker Romelu Lukaku, who came on and changed the game last night at the Ludogorets Arena as he set up Eriksen for his goal and grabbed his 22nd goal of the season right at the end of the game.

“Lukaku is a positive example. He involves his teammates, embraces those on the bench and when he makes statements he always does it to the team and not to the staff. He has a lot of altruism, not selfishness. His qualities elevate the rest of the team. You have to have players like him in the team.”
