Inter Midfielder Borja Valero: “We’re Not Through Yet But It’s A Big Step Forward”

Inter central midfielder Borja Valero has reflected on Inter’s performance in their 2-0 away win over Ludogorets in Thursday night’s Europa League round of 32 first leg tie with them.

“It was very important to try to win and score as many goals as possible in order to be able to play the return fixture in a calmer fashion. We’re not through yet, but it’s a big step forward. Ludogorets wanted to do well against a great team in Inter. After a slightly slow start, we managed to get a result,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia earlier on today.

The veteran Spaniard proceeded to speak on Inter’s upcoming run of fixtures which will see them face arch rivals Juventus and play second legs in the Coppa Italia and Europa League against Napoli and Ludogorets among many other big matches.

“A period is now beginning where it’ll get harder and harder every match, there’s a lot at stake. We’ve experienced it first-hand and dropped points against sides who we beat during the first half of the season.

“It’s tight at the top, we need to pick up as many points as possible to remain in the mix until the very end and have a chance of being successful.

“The group can be the difference at this point in time. We need to stay united. There are many games to be played, everyone has their own little role and needs to make their own contribution for the benefit of the team.”

Next he went on to discuss how he has found not playing for large spells of the season and revealed how he is still happy despite this.

“It was a little bit difficult for me at the start of the season, I wasn’t getting in the team. But I put in the hard work and the injuries we had presented me with a bit of an opportunity, I’ve demonstrated that I’m at the same level as the rest of the squad. I’m happy because I consider this to be important, I have renewed motivation.”

In conclusion Valero spoke on new teammate and fellow midfielder Christian Eriksen, who notched his first goal for the club in the game.

“He’s a really important player. I’d already come up against him in the past and found it difficult. We’re hoping that he’ll be able to make a contribution during the final part of the season.”

This season Valero has made 14 appearances across all competitions, in which he has contributed two goals.
