Inter captain Samir Handanovic is still injured but is hoping to return in time for the Derby d’Italia against Juventus at the start of March, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
The report details how the 35-year-old Slovenian shot stopper will miss his sixth game in a row tomorrow evening, being forced to miss the league clash against Sampdoria. Italian goalkeeper Daniele Padelli will continue to fill in for the Nerazzurri, even if coach Antonio Conte would prefer to deploy another player.
Handanovic would make the difference against Juventus, the report continues, and so both the club and player want to ensure he is fully fit for the game. He still hasn’t had contact with the ball yet, but he could in today’s training session.
Handanovic may play against Ludogorets in the Europa League in the week in order to regain some match fitness, but only if the risks of injury are incredibly low.
