The Italian government and FIGC, the Italian football federation, remain in talks regarding how football will be affected by the Coronavirus outbreak in the country according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere della Sera.

For the time being playing games behind closed doors seems the most likely and logical outcome to limit the spread of the virus which in excess of 200 people have contracted in Italy. The reason for this is because there is simply not enough time to mass postpone games and fit them in between now and the end of the season.

Inter are scheduled to play Ludogorets in the second leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie on Thursday at San Siro and it is very likely that the game will be played behind closed doors.

The report from the Milan based newspaper goes on to state that tournament organisers UEFA will completely take on board what the relevant health authorities state and if needed, the match could well be moved elsewhere in Italy with Udinese’s Dacia Arena, Fiorentina’s Stadio Artemio Franchi and Roma and Lazio’s Stadio Olimpico all possible venues.
