Former Belgium Striker Dergyse: “Fortunately We Have Lukaku, He’s Having The Best Season Of His Career At Inter”

Former Belgian national team striker Marc Dergyse has shared his fears over the lack of viable striking options other than Inter’s Romelu Lukaku ahead of this Summer’s European Championship’s.

Lukaku has been in sensational form for Inter this season since joining in a club record €65 million transfer deal from Premier League club Manchester United this past Summer have scored 22 goals in 33 games across all competitions to date.

The 26-year-old is also the Belgium national team’s leading all time goalscorer with him having scored 52 goals in 84 appearances.

“Fortunately we have Romelu Lukaku, who is having the best season of his career but behind him there is a bit of a gulf so he cannot get injured,” Club Brugge and Anderlecht icon Dergryse explained in an interview with various Belgian media outlets earlier on today.

Dergryse then went on to discuss some of the alternatives that Roberto Martinez is able to choose from and he does not give the impression of being very confident in any of the options.

“Michy Batshuayi only occasionally plays for Chelsea but he does not convince and Christian Benteke and Divorick Origi are having difficulties themselves.”

Belgium’s EURO 2020 campaign begins on June 13 with them to face Russia on that day. They also have Denmark and Finland in their group.
