Inter centre back Andrea Ranocchia has admitted that it was hard to have to play in front of no crowd as the Nerazzurri secured their progression to the last 16 of the Europa League with a win over Ludogorets on Thursday night.
Inter came into the game with a 2-0 lead from the first leg that took place last week and despite falling behind in this leg, they quickly got back on level terms thanks to Cristiano Biraghi and then took the lead through Romelu Lukaku just before the half time interval at San Siro.
“We are not used to playing without fans, it is a bit harder because you have to keep your attention high but the important thing is that we have got to the next round,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.
Ranocchia then went on to discuss this weekend’s Derby D’Italia match away to Juventus which will also be played behind closed doors.
“Now we will focus on Sunday’s match. We know that Juventus vs Inter is ‘the’ game and I am sure that we will prepare very well for it.
“I do not know if playing behind closed doors will be an advantage, that will be seen during the game. In any case, it is a special match. It is a pity because atmosphere in big matches always gives you great motivation.”
The 32-year-old made his sixth appearance across all competitions to date this season in the match but was unable to add to the one goal he had scored already this season or tally his first assist of the season.
