Inter Legend Ferri: “Juve-Inter Can Be A Decisive Match, I Hope Lautaro Stays, There Is Everything To Play For”

In an interview with FCInter1908.it, legendary Inter defender Riccardo Ferri has shared his thoughts and feelings ahead of this weekend’s Derby D’Italia between Juventus and Inter which will be played behind closed doors at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

“This match is a little different to the previous eight between the sides because they can both fight until the end for the title,” he started.

“Inter have a far more competitive team than in recent years and have a manager who wants to do well in that stadium.

“It can be a decisive match. We must always keep in mind though that for Inter it is year zero. Important signings have been made but there are still many things to fix. There is however hope that in the coming seasons Inter can start on a par with Juve.”

The former centre back then went on to speak about the tactical tinkering Inter manager Antonio Conte has been doing in recent games with him sometimes changing the team to play with a four man defensive system.

“Conte sees his players every day and knows the best ways to fit them into his team. In the Europa League, the games with Ludogorets put him in the position where he was able to experiment tactically.

“Inter have many quality players and he has given minutes to players who have played little and managed the situation in the best way. There is still a long way to go in the season and I believe in the work Conte is doing.”

Ferri proceeded to discuss Inter January transfer window recruit Christian Eriksen and his adaption period at the club.

“Right now we need to think about the team and not about individuals. If Eriksen is the player who can give something more to the team, Conte will certainly use him. With now being a crucial moment of the season, it is only right for Conte to give priority to the group.”

Next he was asked about Inter striker Lautaro Martinez and his future with the Nerazzurri amid continued interest in his services from La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid in particular.

“Nobody knows the future, I don’t even believe Lautaro himself knows what will happen. I think right now we need to think about the group and the goals.

“Lautaro is an extraordinary player who has great quality and is already playing in a great team. Inter are building for the future, he is a young player and I hope he can stay and make an important contribution and write history for the club.

“We know that in football there are often upheavals, predictions cannot be made. If Lautaro were to leave, I think the club are very competent and will sign someone of the same level or above in order to improve this group which is already at a high level.”
In conclusion he was asked about whether Inter can aim for any silverware and what their objectives should be from here until the end of this season

“I am in agreement with Conte. Every game is important, for now the most important is the match with Juventus. You can’t make calculations and Conte certainly wants to play all the games, even the training ones, with the desire to win.

“Winning the title is still possible, there’s still a long way to go in the Europa League and the Coppa Italia is also an important objective. There is everything to play for and I would not rule anything out.”
