Inter vice president Javier Zanetti has given his reaction to this afternoon’s Europa League last 16 draw that has seen the Nerazzurri drawn against La Liga outfit Getafe.
“We will face Getafe who are an insidious team and we will prepare as well as we can for all the matches. There is no precedent between the two teams, but they are a team that deserve a lot of respect,” he remarked in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV.
“They are fifth in the league in La Liga and the match must be faced with a lot of concentration. They are a team who concede very few goals, they are very physical and like to have possession therefore we must be very careful. We will prepare in the best way we can.”
He was then asked if it is more of an advantage or disadvantage having to play at home first and then having to go away for the second leg.
“Regardless of the order in which the games are played, we must face both games with the maximum concentration, we want to go all the way and we have to show that we care about this competition.”
He then briefly commented on what he made of the team’s performance in their 2-1 triumph over Ludogorets in the second leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie with them at San Siro.
“It wasn’t a simple game yesterday but the team approached it very well, the boys who played less showed that they care about being important.”
In conclusion the former Argentine national team player spoke on the tricky fixture schedule that awaits Inter in the coming weeks with matches against Juventus and Napoli to come on top of the Europa League double header with Getafe.
“We are preparing for all these matches which are of the utmost importance and so it is welcome that everyone is well and that they can make their contribution. It is very important that the group of players are completely available. ”
Zanetti spent nearly his entire career on Inter’s books and is the current club record holder for most appearances made having played no less than 860 times for the club.
