Inter Goalkeeper Daniele Padelli’s Agent: “He Knows He’s Not Samir Handanovic, It’s Not Right To Criticise Him So Much”

Silvano Martina, the agent for Inter goalkeeper Daniele Padelli and Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon, discussed the Nerazzurri shot stopper and the current situation in Italian football in an interview with Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb today.

“If it was decided that way, whoever made the decision must have had good reasons. If the games are not played earlier, with the postponement set for May 13, the Scudetto fight will be decided at the end.”

He suggested that it might have been a better idea to postpone all of the games, instead of only five.

“Maybe there would have been more regularity.”

Martina spoke about his client, Padelli, and how he’s dealt with the criticism levied against him.

“He’s always been calm. We spoke often. He was given the blame that he didn’t deserve for some of the goals he conceded. I told him to stay calm.”

Martina spoke further about the criticism that Padelli has received, especially for his performance in the Milanese derby.

“He really didn’t make any mistakes. In the first, in the dynamics there is a team-mate who misses the ball. What was the goalkeeper supposed to do? He didn’t make a mistake. And in the other one, Ibra shot from two yards unmarked. It’s easy to blame Padelli and who cares, I’ve also heard offensive comments from Gene Gnocchi who I think should be ashamed of himself. That’s the way the country is now, I don’t expect to change it. Padelli didn’t have great parades, but it wasn’t disastrous. Then everything can be done better, it’s clear. But let’s also consider that he hasn’t played in three years. And then Inter lost games with Handanovic too. But it’s not right to ridicule the player, and Padelli knows he’s not Handanovic.”

The agent spoke about Juventus’ difficulties this season.

“Not all years are the same. It’s hard enough to win a league, let alone nine in a row.”

Finally, Martina discussed whether Padelli would remain at Inter next season as well. His current contract expires in the summer.

“Let’s let him finish the season and then we’ll see. Radu will be back at Inter, so we’ll have to talk to the club. We’ll see.”

Padelli has made eight appearances for the Nerazzurri across all competitions since his arrival in 2017. Six of those appearances have come this season, following on from a finger injury to club captain Samir Handanovic.
