Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has insisted that common sense is required when it comes to the handling of the currently messy situation with regards to the re-scheduling of several Italian football fixtures.
As a result of the Coronavirus outbreak in Italy, matches at all levels have been affected and this has created a very difficult situation for league organisers, particularly those in charge of Serie A.
Two weeks ago, Inter’s match at home to Sampdoria was one of four Serie A matches to be postponed whilst this past weekend the Nerazzurri’s match away to arch rivals Juventus was one of five postponed.
Serie A leaders face a really difficult challenge trying to re-organise things in a way that suits and is fair to all the clubs to have been affected.
It is proving particularly difficult to re-schedule some fixtures however due to some teams involvements in other competitions such as Inter’s in the Europa League and this has led to a meeting between the league and clubs being called.
“Before Wednesday’s meeting, the Lega will send us all of their proposals, not just that of playing in Turin with Juventus on the 9th. After that Inter will make their proposal,” he explained in an interview with Italian news agency ANSA.
“We need to broaden the range of proposals and we need common sense whist also respecting the logistics of the schedule.”
