Inter defender Diego Godin’s future is unclear as multiple clubs are interested in signing him in the summer, according to a report from Italian media outlet FcInterNews today.
The report details how the 34-year-old Uruguayan, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2022, has struggled in his first season in Italy. The former Atletico Madrid defender has not managed to show off his best in coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system and has even been benched by 20-year-old Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni.
Premier League side Tottenham are incredibly keen on Godin, the report continues. Coach Jose Mourinho appreciates the defender and wanted to bring him to England before during his time in charge of Manchester United. In Spain, Valencia are looking for a new center back and believe Godin would fit well. There are also reports from Spain that his former club Atletico Madrid are keen for a reunion.
Inter aren’t desperate to sell the player, the report highlights, and would happily keep him for next season as well. However, should he look for a move away, Inter wouldn’t attempt to block a deal. His departure would save Inter around €22 million.
