The Italian football federation (FIGC) are considering ways in which the season could be decided if play does not resume according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere della Sera.
The league has been on hold for a few weeks now due to the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and it remains a mystery as to whether or not the season will even resume given the unprecedented circumstances.
One idea that FIGC are mulling over as per the report is the idea of awarding every team three points per game they still have to play.
Some clubs have 12 games still to play whilst others, including Inter have 13 left meaning some clubs will have an additional 36 points added to their tally whilst those with 13 will have 39 added.
If FIGC follow through with this it would mean Juventus would be champions, Lazio would be second, Inter third and Atalanta fourth.
Roma and Napoli would finish fifth and sixth and make it into the Europa League group stages whilst Hellas Verona would finish seventh and make it into the Europa League preliminaries.
The report goes on to add that there will also only be two clubs relegated as the playoffs that would determine the third Serie B team to be promoted will not take place. Going off of FIGC’s idea of three points per game left to play, SPAL and Brescia would be relegated.
