Italian Report Claims Inter Coach Antonio Conte Open To Letting Diego Godin Leave This Summer

Inter coach Antonio Conte is prepared to sell Uruguayan defender Diego Godin in the summer due to his slow adaption to the former Chelsea coach’s system as well as his high wages, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the 34-year-old Uruguayan defender has many fans across Europe, with clubs in both the Premier League and the Spanish league interested in acquiring the experienced centre back.

The player signed a three-year deal with Inter after joining on a free transfer in 2019, and his sale in the summer would save Inter around €20 million, considering his €5 million net salary per season.

As a replacement, Inter are considering signing Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen, the report continues. The Belgian could be signed on a free transfer after his contract expires with Spurs.

Another option is Hellas Verona starlet Marash Kumbulla, who is worth around €20 million and has impressed at only 19 years of age.
