Ligue 1 side Monaco are prepared to make an offer for Inter linked striker Dries Mertens, according to a report from French media outlet Onzemondial.com today.
The report details how the 32-year-old Belgian forward’s contract expires with Napoli at the end of the season, and currently a renewal doesn’t seem likely. The player has been linked with many clubs around Europe, including Inter and Chelsea. Monaco are looking to strengthen their squad and sign prestigious names in order to tempt more players to join the club.
Monaco are not too confident about their chances, the report continues, as they know they cannot match the financial might of Chelsea, who are looking to sign the plyer as a replacement for the outgoing Olivier Giroud.
Mertens has made 29 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1787 minutes. In that time, he has scored 12 goals and provided six assists.
