Spanish Report Claims UEFA Planning To Kick Off 2020/2021 Champions League & Europa League In October

UEFA have decided that next season’s Champions League will kick off at the end of October, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Spanish newspaper Sport.

The report details how UEFA are looking for a safe date to restart the competition, whilst also allowing for leagues across Europe to finish over the summer. The Champions League is now expected to begin on the 20th October, around one month later than it usually starts. The qualifying rounds for the competition would begin in late July or early August.

The Europa League would then start on the 22nd October, the report continues, with the qualifying rounds starting on the 13th August. The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has forced leagues across Europe to be fully stopped until health conditions allow for a restart. Serie A clubs are hoping that their players can return to training on the 4th May, allowing for a restart of the league at the end of next month.
