The remainder of the Serie A season will only be decided by playoffs if the season does not start back up again according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 2019/20 season was put on hold close to three months ago due to the Coronavirus crisis and the season is scheduled to resume in just over a fortnight, on June 20.
Should, for whatever reason, the season not resume on that date, playoffs to decide things across the league would then be used.
The report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to explain that should the season resume on June 20 but then be stopped again at a later date, an average points based system could be used to determine the final standings in the table.
Lega Serie A proposed the idea of an average points based system whilst the Italian football federation have come up with a projected points algorithm. The results of this system will be determined by the fixtures already played amongst the clubs.
