Italian journalist Luca Marchetti commented on Inter’s 1-1 draw against Napoli and elimination from the Coppa Italia in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the game.
“If we want to find a positive note in the undeserved elimination of Inter it’s that the high number of matches has gone down. They will play in a week’s time against Sampdoria and then they will have the same amount of games as the others.”
Marchetti then touched on how the Nerazzurri have a slight physical advtange compared to other teams when restarting the league, due to facing Napoli tonight. Unlike either Juventus or Napoli, the Nerazzurri have a full week to recover, rather than playing in the mid-week slot.
“Objectively speaking, Inter have already tested their athletic condition against an important team like Napoli and they had a good match. It certainly served them well in terms of awareness of their means. Now the Nerazzurri know what to do when they return to the pitch, if I were Sampdoria, I’d be worried.”
Inter coach Antonio Conte was hoping to win the Coppa Italia, after disappointing in the Champions League and falling behind in the title race. The Nerazzurri are nine points behind league leaders Juventus, although they do have a game in hand thanks to the postponed game against Sampdoria that will be recovered next weekend. The Lecce born coach has never won the Coppa Italia as a manager and will have to wait until next season to try again.
