Italian Media Praise Performance Of Referee Gianluca Rocchi In Inter’s Coppa Italia Clash Vs Napoli

A report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport has analysed the performance of Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi in Inter’s 1-1 draw against Napoli yesterday in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

The report details how the referee booked Nerazzurri wing back Ashley Young for a challenge against Matteo Politano early on, with the decision being correct. Some 22 minutes later, the two players clashed again, with Young again fouling his opponent, which could have been a second yellow card.

Inter defender Stefan De Vrij was rightly warned for a foul on Napoli forward Dries Mertens. The final point of contention was a possible handball committed by De Vrij, the report continues.

The 28-year-old Dutchman was involved in a handball shout after the ball shot past his left forearm. His arm seemed to be in a natural position but the ball did also seemingly skim it, making it a difficult decision.
