Barcelona would need to sell players in order to afford Inter striker Lautaro Martinez’s €111 million release clause, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.
The report details how the Blaugrana have been incredibly keen to sign the 22-year-old Argentine striker, who is contracted to the Milanese club until 2023, for some time now, believing him to be the perfect replacement for the aging Luis Suarez. It appeared as if the Catalan side could close out the deal for a fee of around €90 million plus Junior Firpo and another player in exchange, but now the Nerazzurri have returned to their position of wanting the player’s release clause only.
Barcelona would have to sell off some players in order to fund the deal for Lautaro, the report continues, with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic damaging their already unbalanced books. The Blaugrana haven’t given up yet and will not do so soon, and so Inter are patiently awaiting their next move.
