Ex-Nerazzurri Defender Angloma: “Inter Was A Beautiful Time In My Life, Moratti A Gentleman”

In an interview with Italian news outlet PassioneInter.com, former Inter defender Jocelyn Angloma has reflected on his time with the club among a number of other things.

“Inter was a beautiful time in my life. I was able to grow even more after my experience at Torino, in a great team. I wanted to stay longer, but I couldn’t do it after only a year I had to go to Valencia,” he began the interview.

“From that moment I have always followed the Nerazzurri, I have seen them grow. We reached the UEFA Cup final, the year after my farewell they raised the cup but Inter always remains in my heart, for me it was a pleasure and an honour to play in Milan.”

Angloma, who is currently the manager of the Guadeloupe national team, was then asked what his best memory was from his single season with the Nerazzurri club.

“We didn’t win titles, but we had a good season. We played a final, done good things in the league, and I played with champions such as Pagliuca, Zamorano, Djorkaeff, Ince and Winter. We had a team to do great things, even if we didn’t make it all the way. Then there was Moratti, a gentleman. I miss him very much.”

The former French national team player then spoke further on former Inter president and owner Massimo Moratti.

“We had a normal relationship, but he knew football well and established a special relationship with the players. He was always present, he would speak in the right way, I really liked this side of him.

“We had a normal man-to-man relationship, but on the one hand it resembled that of a father with his son. The players always had this affection for him.”

He then went on to speak about former Inter teammate and current Inter vice president Javier Zanetti and his memories of the Argentine.

“I have a great memory of Zanetti, he was a great player and I also really like the job he is doing now. It is important for Inter to have someone like him who wrote history and who then remains as part of the management.

“I was able to play with Javier and he was incredible. He could play at full back, in the midfield and he even once played in the attack. We had a beautiful relationship.”

Next Angloma went on to speak about former Inter manager Roy Hodgson, who was in charge whilst he was at the club.

“He was certainly treated a little badly, because we didn’t have the results that a team like Inter must have, especially with world class players.

“He knew how to deal with the players, he was very affectionate. A team like Inter needs someone with great personality and he had it but he was missing something. He couldn’t finish the job as he wanted to but that’s how it is. Big teams often change managers.”

Next Angloma spoke on two more of his former teammates, Youri Djorkaeff and Ivan Zamorano.

“I already knew Djorkaeff from the national team, I knew full well what he was able to do. I will always remember his goal against Roma.

“Zamorano? The Helicopter, Bam Bam Zamorano! He did great things he was our goalscorer. That was a real team, there was a real friendship in that team, we went out to eat and every now and then to part. The two of them were two champions.”

He was asked about whether he still follows Inter to this day.

“I have played in seven teams and I still follow all seven of them. In particular, Inter, who are a great team and play football well.”

In conclusion he shared his thoughts on the current Inter team.

“This team has something special about them. This year I thought the Nerazzurri could win, they had started off great, but in the long run they lost a lot.

“It was difficult for Conte to arrive and win immediately but I know that he does everything to win and even now he will do everything to give Juventus a hard time. Next year Inter can return to the Champions League again and this is very nice for the fans, it’s fundamental.”
