Roberto Mancini gave an in depth interview to Top Calcio 24 speaking about the past, present and future of his former club, beginning by expressing his support for Inter’s current coach Stefano Pioli: “I met him at Coverciano on Monday, I told him that Inter have confirmed him. Football is stupid because a coach is judged on the basis of one match. He has done a brilliant job since arriving, after a difficult 6 months start to season. Then I don’t know what the club’s strategy is if they want to keep him or not.”
“I think that if Inter had done things differently, they would have been fighting for the Scudetto. So for me I would put Inter in third knowing that Roma and Napoli are better equipped. Candreva, Banega and Joao Mario for example are great players. Touré? We’ve made quite a journey together but to compete with Juventus you have to do things differently.”
Mancini was then asked if he has any regrets with regards to resign to which he replied: “Things would be different if I had stayed at Inter, we would have done things differently in the beginning and would have been in a different position. Now the situation is much clearer as compared to last summer when nothing was clear, I think that Suning can do great things because they have a huge potential. I hope this happens for the fans. Was Joao Mario on his way a year before he signed? No, we spoke about it with Ausilio and the cost would have been much lower. Dzeko? I signed him in January 2011, he has always been decisive because he’s a striker that scores goals, he only needed time to adapt to Italy. Icardi has improved, he’s scored more than 20 goals. Sure he makes mistakes like all strikers but it’s not like his goals are absent.”
In conclusion Mancini spoke about his own future stating “I prefer to work abroad, I’d like to try a new league. Milan? This is a rumor that started because Fassone became the new CEO of Milan but it’s only talk. If the occasion should arrive I’d evaluate it, a coach goes where he thinks he can do well. Moratti? I haven’t spoken to him these past few months, but I do talk to him every now and then.”
