Spalletti: “As A Coach You’re Representing All Of Your Supporters”

Inter head coach Luciano Spalletti has spoken about the huge pressures of coaching in modern football, describing himself as the ‘mouthpiece’ of the Nerazzurri’s supporters.

Spalletti attended an event on Wednesday evening that commemorated forty years since the start of the 1978 FIFA World Cup, along with former Suning Group technical coordinator Walter Sabatini, and spoke during a press conference about the role of the modern manager.

“Football is a movement that contains strong emotions, emotions that I’ve been fortunate enough to experience during my career as a coach,” he told an audience at the Sala dei Notari in Perugia.

“Despite not having won loads I have felt a significant amount of pressure throughout my career from the people that you meet on a daily basis.

“They’re passionate about their team’s results and they make it clear to you that you are the one representing them on the pitch every week, the one that has to put what they want into practice.

“It’s true that you look to transform [this kind of pressure] into passion and hard work, but when you’re dealing with these kinds of emotions everything becomes more difficult.”
