Inter CEO Optimistic On FFP & Icardi’s Renewal

Speaking at the launch of well-known journalist Marco Bellinazzo’s new book ‘The End of Italian Football,’ Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello revealed the club’s plans for the upcoming weeks.

“Inter continue to develop the project with the new shareholders. We have a strategy for the club. This year the goal was to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, and we have succeeded. Now, we must recognise it takes time to build a competitive team so that we can improve on the outcome of last season. Our objectives on the transfer market are clear, and we defined them with Luciano Spalletti. We must build a team that can be competitive both in Serie A and the European competition, so strengthening the squad is a necessity.”

Antonello then spoke on club captain Mauro Icardi and his future with the club amid ongoing reports linking him with a move elsewhere this summer.

“Icardi? There is nothing to worry about. He is our player, our captain and in the coming weeks we will discuss the possibility of a renewal.”

The CEO went on to discuss the clubs position in terms of Financial Fair Play.

“There is optimism on this front. We have an agreement with UEFA and we know what we must achieve by June 30. We are working well in this direction, and we think we can reach our goal. Is Nainggolan our goal? I do not wish to talk about individuals, but rather the objective of the club. We do not think about depriving ourselves of anyone because of FFP, but instead we are focused on building a competitive squad.”
