Luka Modric made it clear in his meeting with Real Madrid number two Jose Angel Sanchez that his desire to leave is not for money but for other reasons, mainly the desire to face a new challenge at this stage in his career according to a report from Corriere dello Sport.

The Croatian is soon due to meet with Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez where it is expected that he will simply reiterate what he told Sanchez and make it even clearer that he wants to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

The report from the Rome based newspaper also reveals that Modric could very well have become an Inter player some nine years ago.Coming off a good season with Spurs, Inter and then manager Jose Mourinho were amazed and Inter’s then sporting director Marco Branca then got to work on trying to sign the midfielder. Inter approached Spurs but were knocked back which lead to the Nerazzurri signing Wesley Sneijder from Real Madrid.
