Frosinone Keeper Sportiello: “Handanovic Is An Exemplary Professional”

Frosinone goalkeeper Marco Sportiello believes Samir Handanovic is the second best shot-stopper in the world and has described the Slovenian as ‘an exemplary professional’.

Handanovic has become a divisive figure amongst Inter supporters during his six seasons at the club, with some convinced he is one of Europe’s greatest between the sticks and others insistent that he is afforded too much hype.

However Sportiello, who has joined newly-promoted Frosinone from Atalanta this summer on loan with an option to buy, does not have any doubt over where the 34 year-old should be placed.

“[Gigi] Buffon is still the best goalkeeper in the world,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview on Saturday. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see him playing for Italy again soon.

“After that there’s Handanovic, an exemplary professional, and [Hugo] Lloris. He’s often underrated but he’s a guarantee.

“As far as Italian keepers are concerned, after Buffon there’s [Mattia] Perin, one of the best keepers in Serie A last season. In terms of youngsters I’d highlight [Alex] Meret, there’s a reason Napoli have made an investment on him.”
