Of last season’s top four in Serie A, only Inter failed to pick up a victory in their first game of the 2018/19 season over the weekend.
Gazzetta dello Sport detail that while Inter had some “mitigating factors” if they want to win or at least challenge for the Scudetto they must pick up wins over the likes of Sassuolo.
“Inter and Spalletti have some mitigating factors. Perisic only had a few training sessions and even Vrsaljko has only recently returned. The former Sassuolo man Politano was a little pungent but he still needs to get into the swing of things. The point is that if you want to fight for the Scudetto, against Sassuolo you have to win.”
While Inter lost 1-0, reigning champions Juventus came from behind twice to secure a 3-2 victory to kick off their 7th successive title defence. Napoli meanwhile saw off Lazio 2-1 in the Italian capital while Roma scored late on to secure a 1-0 victory away from home against Torino.
