Luka Modric shocked many in recent days by claiming he did not make the initial contact with Inter following a barrage of reports suggesting he had in fact done so.

The Croatian international, who drew very strong interest from the Nerazzurri, claimed reports were “the biggest load of nonsense.”

Gazzetta dello Sport have taken a look at the possible reason behind the Croatian’s decision to backtrack with his desire to join Inter.

“It is probable that he done this because in the end he remained in Madrid and it is reasonable to think that the change of course was necessary to avoid further tears with the club, as Florentino Perez seems ready to give him an improved contract and put an end to the soap opera of the summer,” the Milan based newspaper suggest as a possible reason as to why Modric did what he did in the past few days.
