Sassuolo manager Roberto De Zerbi has downplayed his team’s 1-0 victory over Inter at the weekend and has tipped the Nerazzurri to still be the anti-Juventus, despite losing the first game.
“It’s football in August, you can’t read too much into some results. Despite the defeat against my team, I’m still convinced Inter are the real anti-Juventus. The Nerazzurri have something more than Napoli or Roma,” De Zerbi said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
De Zerbi proceeded to discuss the match and denied preparing anything in particular to beat Inter.
“There are certain opponents we can only beat if they don’t play a great game. We played at a high level even if we could have done better, using the ball more in their half to try and take the sting out of the game. We hadn’t prepared anything special to stop them, we studied their movements and we knew that in the defensive phase they’d play a certain way.
“With possession of the ball they go to a back-three, with Brozovic as the playmaker and Asamoah as a mezzala. We were effective in organising the game and always manoeuvring at high speed.”
