Inter manager Luciano Spalletti has been handed a €10,000 fine and warning for his conduct after the defeat to Sassuolo by the sports judge, Lega Serie A have confirmed.
Spalletti approached referee Maurizio Mariani and said things that have been deemed to be “gravely offensive” to the 36-year-old referee and worthy of the fine. What Spalletti exactly said to Mariani was not disclosed in the sports judge’s report of the events from the weekend that needed to be heard.
Spalletti was not the only manager punished over the weekend either as former Inter manager Walter Mazzarri was given a warning by the sports judge for coming outwith his technical area during Torino’s home loss to Roma to complain to the referee. This means Mazzarri will in fact be on the touchline when Torino travel to Milano to take on Inter this weekend despite initial fears he may have been forced to watch from the stand.
Udinese, Parma and Napoli all received fines varying between €2000 and €4000 for crowd trouble at their matches over the weekend. Udinese were handed a €4000 fine for a flare being launched on to the pitch while Parma were given a €2000 fine for supporters setting off fireworks. Napoli meanwhile received a €2500 fine for letting off flares.
