Spalletti Overestimated The Midfield, Brozovic In Particular

Tuttosport believe Inter manager Luciano Spalletti has made a huge error in judgement when it comes to judging just how good Inter’s midfield is.

Rather than push for another midfielder to be signed, Spalletti instead requested Inter bring in another winger for him and given the bleak showing of the midfield at the MAPEI Stadium in the defeat to Sassuolo, it is clear he was overvaluing the members of the midfield, namely Marcelo Brozovic.

Brozovic starred in the second half of last season following Spalletti’s decision to deploy him in a deeper role but on Sunday he returned to being the inconsistent player that he was best known for prior to his role change. This could be down to his lack of training in comparison to teammates following his later return after his involvement at the World Cup and Spalletti’s gamble to allow Brozovic to try control the midfield in Reggio Emilia backfired.
