Antonio Candreva remains reluctant to leave Inter despite interest from Monaco as he is convinced he will be able to play a significant number of games this season, according to FcInterNews.
Candreva made 36 league appearances for the Nerazzurri in the 2017-18 campaign but failed to score a single goal during his time on the pitch, leading the club to bring in reinforcements this summer which have pushed him down the pecking order in attack.
Matteo Politano and Keita Balde are now both ahead of the Italian on the right wing and are expected to drastically decrease the amount of game-time available for him this season, which has led Ligue 1 side Monaco – the club from whom Inter signed Keita a fortnight ago – to step up their pursuit of the 31 year-old.
However despite the risk of playing little, and despite the risk of being excluded from Inter’s Champions League squad, FcInterNews report that Candreva still does not want to leave Inter for the time being.
“The season has only just started, naturally, but against Sassuolo on Sunday all of Inter’s attacking options came on in the second half except him. A coincidence? At the moment we can’t know for sure.
“What is for sure though is that Candreva is unlikely to switch clubs in the immediate future. He is convinced that he can fight for his place in attack this season, given that Inter will be competing on three fronts, and not even an exclusion from the club’s Champions League squad would change his mind.
“As things stand Candreva has nothing but Inter in his thoughts, which means any potential moves will be left on hold until later (January?). That said, it’s a situation worth monitoring as Monaco are still pressing for his signature.”
