It is no secret that being in the Champions League drastically helps clubs out financially and following the decision to automatically welcome four teams from England, Spain, Italy and Germany, the tournament’s value has increased by about 50% meaning the competition is more lucrative than ever before.
The Champions League now has a turnover of €3.25 billion and a €2 billion kitty to be spread amongst the €32 participants.
Milan based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport have taken a look at some of the key figures and found that even in the worst case scenario wherein a side loses all six group stage encounters, they will still earn themselves a mouthwatering sum of €58 million. Moreover, in the highly unlikely event that a side win all 13 games required to go all the way and be crowned champions of Europe they will pocket an impressive €82.2 million alone in win bonuses on top of the Champions prize money etc.
