Yann Karamoh is among a list of 80 players in the running for the 2018 Golden Boy award after surviving the first cut of nominations.
The Golden Boy was established by Tuttosport in 2003 and is awarded on an annual basis to the best player in Europe under the age of 21, with the judging panel formed by various journalists around the continent.
Past winners include Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Paul Pogba and Mario Balotelli, who won the award in 2010 off the back of his contribution to Inter’s treble-winning campaign.
Karamoh was included in the initial list of 100 nominees for the 2018 edition, announced in July, which also included the likes of Juventus forward Moise Kean and new Roma signing Justin Kluivert, and has now made the final 80 following a readers vote on Tuttosport’s website.
Each month another 20 players will be eliminated from the list until November, when the winner will be announced.
Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe won the 2017 award, fending off competition from Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
