Ex-Italy Midfielder Di Gennaro Is Pessimistic About Inter’s Champions League Chances

Former Fiorentina and Italy midfielder Antonio Di Gennaro is pessimistic about Inter’s chances of qualifying from their UEFA Champions League group, warning the Nerazzurri that they will have to make marked improvements if they are to stand a chance of reaching the last 16.

Luciano Spalletti’s side have taken just one point from their opening two games of the Serie A season and were handed an extremely tough group in Friday’s draw, which will pit them against Barcelona, Tottenham and PSV Eindhoven.

“If Inter are the team we’ve seen so far this season then they’ll need to change everything, because the Champions League starts soon and they need to put in a good performance against Bologna [this weekend] to change their mentality,” Di Gennaro told RMC Sport on Friday.

“The Inter we’ve seen so far cannot make it out of this group, they’ll need to make changes. Tottenham frighten me because they’re a technical, physical and experienced team.

“It’s an extremely difficult group for Inter, but if they manage to find some balance and quality then they can have a go at getting out of it.”
