With the first three rounds of the new Serie A season now out of the way, Gazzetta dello Sport have analysed the various tactical dilemmas that the league’s top six coaches will be mulling over during the first international break of the campaign.
As far as Inter are concerned, victorious for the first time against Bologna on Saturday, Luciano Spalletti remains undecided over which system he should persist with when play resumes in a fortnight, while there are also several questions to answer in midfield.
“Spalletti is another coach who has experimented with a back three so far,” they write, “but at the moment 4-2-3-1 remains the more tried and tested solution.
“For sure though, on paper a three-man defence of Skriniar, De Vrij and Miranda would be unbeatable: perhaps Spalletti is keeping that in mind for the big games this season.
“Inter don’t have a true playmaker in midfield like Luka Modric, although Brozovic is doing well at the moment: let’s see if he can be consistent.
“Up front Lautaro Martinez has disappeared after an excellent pre-season, but his time will come. The real Keita needs to play every week, but we haven’t seen him yet. There’s one man who’s indispensable though: [Radja] Nainggolan.”
