Italian TV Presenter Cattelan: “The Champions League Is Where Inter Belong”

Inter are ‘back where they belong’ after qualifying for this season’s UEFA Champions League but will struggle to make it past the group stage, according to Italian television presenter and lifelong Nerazzurri supporter Alessandro Cattelan.

Luciano Spalletti’s side will make their bow in Europe’s top club competition when they face Tottenham at San Siro on Tuesday evening, in a group that also features two former champions in Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven, and many expect them to falter at the first hurdle after securing qualification on the final day of last season.

“They’re going to have a difficult time, but they’re back where they need to be,” Cattelan told Corriere della Sera in an interview on Friday.

“I began supporting Inter because it was the team my Dad supported. My first memory is of Nicola Berti after he had just won the Scudetto [during the 1988-89 season]. Everything seemed so beautiful: him, the shirt… all the other teams looked ugly to me.

“The guest I’d most like to have on my show? Zlatan Ibrahimovic, definitely. He’s very funny. That said, if Cristiano Ronaldo wants to make an appearance then we’ll welcome him with open arms.”
