Luciano Spalletti has reassured Inter supporters that Mauro Icardi will feature in their match against Parma on Saturday but did not confirm whether or not the Argentine will be fit enough to start.
Icardi was forced to sit out the 3-0 win over Bologna before the international break due to a last-minute injury problem, but recovered to play 85 minutes of Argentina’s goalless draw away to Colombia on Tuesday night.
However various reports have suggested that Spalletti will look to preserve him ahead of next week’s Champions League opener against Tottenham, with Keita Balde preferred up front against the Ducali on Saturday.
“Icardi will feature at some point on Saturday,” he said. “For me it’s not a problem [whether he is able to start or not], but we’ll monitor him closely until kick-off.
“Keita showed against Bologna that he knows how to play in that position, [although] he has a different skill set to Icardi – Icardi is great at running in behind whereas Keita is better at coming short and linking up with his teammates.
“The team can find the right solutions no matter who plays – Keita played up front against Bologna and we won 3-0.”
