Spalletti Keen To Involve Joao Mario As Inter’s Fixtures Pile Up

Joao Mario remains an important player for Inter and could even start for the Nerazzurri at some point during the next month, according to head coach Luciano Spalletti.

The Portuguese midfielder spent the second half of the 2017-18 season on loan at West Ham and expected to leave the club permanently this summer, telling reporters before the FIFA World Cup in Russia that he was no longer motivated to play for Inter.

However a lack of satisfactory offers ensured that he was ultimately forced to stay put until the January transfer window, when the club will presumably look to sell him again.

Until then Mario remains an Inter player – albeit he has been left off the club’s squad list for their UEFA Champions League campaign – and Spalletti believes the 25 year-old could even start for them in Serie A as their fixtures pile up over the next month.

“Joao Mario could get some game-time in the league,” he told reporters ahead of Inter’s match against Parma on Saturday. “We will have a lot of matches to play close to one another over the next month and he could play from the start in one of those.”
