In an interview with Sky Sport Italia ahead of the Champions League clash with Tottenham Hotspur, Inter manager Luciano Spalletti believes the game has the potential to help turn around Inter’s season that has so far seen them perform below expectations.

“It is the game that can turn the season around. In this competition everyone can take advantage, even those who have not played in it will immediately realise the emotions it gives and its beauty and that winning is a very important boost to morale. We have to win the game and make ourselves go in the right direction.

Asked if it would require a change in mentality to overcome Spurs following the poor start, Spalletti is of the opinion that a mentality change depends on the time.

“I think that a mentality change depends on the moment. Some of the player have not yet played to their full potential and we are under performing, consequently we have not been able to express ourselves like we have in the past.”

Spalletti proceeded to discuss the importance of the San Siro.

“The effect of San Siro is really beautiful. Tomorrow night the players will know that there is no more time to waste and that a poor result can jeopardise other results.”

He concluded the interview by speaking on how Inter can tackle Spurs.

“It will take balance on our part. There will be times to take control of the game and times where we will have to adapt to their characteristics, in fact we will be forced to. They have everything: strength, speed and quality in the middle of the field. It will be an open game and we can only benefit from it.”
