Inter returned to the Champions League yesterday after an absence of 6,5 years and did so in the best possible way thanks to a last minute winner against Tottenham. Below you can find some facts and stats from the match.

• Inter’s goalkeeper Samir Handanovic celebrated his 250th Inter game in goal and he did that with his first presence in the Champions League and came home with his first win. At the age of 34 Samir had never before played a game in the group stage only qualification games with Udinese. It started tough with a goal conceded, but at the end he could celebrate with the rest of the 65.000 fans at Giuseppe Meazza.
• The goal from Mauro Icardi against Tottenham was the first goal from an Inter player, in the Champions League outside the box since Mauro Zarate scored against CSKA Moscow in 2011.
• After a decade, Inter managed to win in the first round of the group stage of the Champions League including the seven years of absence, when they beat Tottenham last night. This has not happened since the first round of the 2008/2009 season when Inter beat Panathinaikos, thanks to goals from Amantino Mancini and the emperor Adriano.
