Milano based newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport is not too impressed by the performance of last night’s referee Clement Turpin.
The main reason for that is the fact that it is hard to determine a standard from which the referee called the game. Mr Turpin permitted the Tottenham players to do too much and the Inter players to do too little.
When reviewing some of the decisions from last night, the Gazzetta reports that: “in the 19th minute a foul on Nainggolan from Davies, could have been a yellow card but the referee lets the situation pass. Two minutes later another standard was applied when Skriniar commits a foul on Son, something that leads to the Slovak being bookinged amidst protests from both the crowd and the Inter players. In the 38th minute a booking on a Tottenham player when Sanchez fouls Nainggolan at the edge of the area. In the 41st minute Verthongen goes in late on Perisic but does not get a yellow, but only a couple of minutes later the situation is reversed when Perisic fouls Eriksen and the Croat immediately gets booked. In the second half a booking on Verthongen, the assistant referees correctly calls offside on both Kane and Son on the shot from Lamela deviated by Handanovic. At the end the Tottenham goalkeeper Vorm gets a booking for delaying the game.”
