Inter manager Luciano Spalletti spoke with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport following Inter’s 2-1 win over SPAL which took Inter’s winning streak to six games.
“We made four changes and perhaps risked a little by playing Vrsaljko because D’Ambrosio had a little problem. The players did well, holding firmly but in some circumstances we stalled with the ball and we did not find the free man with passes. We were guilty of losing some possession when they pressed us for a few minutes too.
“We had to get on top first to prevent the defenders getting suffocated. We had to drop ourselves back from time to time and then we had to go wide with our full backs. When you recover and get back the tactical advantage you have to move the ball well. Borja Valero in particular did it very well. SPAL are a very good team from a physical point of view as they have 6-7 who can run and they are very strong on the inactive balls, they also risked one-on-one in the middle. ”
Spalletti then spoke on Keita Balde who was again given another chance to impress from the first whistle.
“He is strong and he has a lot of speed. He has the ability to recover and tear you to pieces but then there’s some times when he is out of position otherwise he would be an exceptional player.”
He then spoke on Inter’s ability to react which has been showcased over the past few games.
“It’s very important. When the game went level, we had it in us to react to get the three points. It’s a feature that a few already had in the team but some didn’t.”
Spalletti concluded the interview by speaking on whether Inter could gradually begin to play with two strikers.
“Yes it can happen but when there is the need to drop back in games we need someone else in the midfield. Tonight Icardi had to come back and he lost the ball sometimes but he is improving in this aspect. I speak with him often and tell him stories.”
