Inter outcast Gabriel Barbosa has spoken with excitement about Santos’s upcoming league game against Corinthians, saying it “has everything to be a special match”.
Barbosa has endured mixed fortunes since returning to his boyhood club on a twelve-month-loan from Inter, following a disastrous one-year spell in Italy, but is currently in good form after scoring eight goals in his last ten Brasileirao matches.
“We’re looking forward to playing this match,” he told Santos’s official website. “We’ve had a good week of training and we want to round it off in the best way possible.
“Corinthians’s stadium will be packed and we know we have a chance of winning. I’ll try and help the team like I always do: scoring is one of my jobs but we need to win regardless of who finds the back of the net.
“It’ll be a match of few chances and I think whichever side makes the fewest mistakes will win. We know it’s a head-to-head encounter, a classic of Brazilian football: we want to win it and move closer to the top six [Santos currently lie 7th in the table].”
