Lautaro Martinez’s Father: “Lautaro & Icardi Compliment Each Others Play But It’s Complicated For Them To Play Together At Inter”

Lautaro Martinez’s father, Mario Martinez, spoke with Esto Es Racing on his son’s first international goal among other things.

“It was something he had been waiting for for a long time. We hope that this call can do good for Lautaro. The opening goal in the match against Iraq motivated him a lot, he took full advantage of the few opportunities he had in the match.”

Martinez Sr. then spoke on how his son has found adapting to Milan.

“The adaption process has been easy for him, Mauro Icardi has always been by his side and has given him a big hand.”

Martinez Sr. then spoke on his son’s play-time with the Nerazzurri and possible striking partnership with Icardi.

“I thought that after the way he played in the pre-season friendlies he may have been given more of a chance but it has not been like that. The formation that Inter uses does not allow for two strikers to play together and for this reason it is complicated for Lautaro to play with Icardi, but they are players who compliment one another and a great friends. Lautaro does not play all the time but we must accept that football is like this at times.”

There remains a dispute between two of Martinez’s old clubs over his transfer fee and his father revealed that he has tried to help the situation.

“The situation is annoying, Lautaro has called both clubs to understand what is happening but now it should be settled between the two clubs.”

He concluded the interview by speaking on his son’s missed World Cup call-up.

“There remains some anger after the hope that was created around his presence in the squad but in the end Jorge Sampaoli will have had his reasons for not taking him.”
