Gazzetta dello Sport have recalled Inter’s first experience with China way back in 1978 while looking at what is Chinese about the modern day Inter side aside from their Chinese ownership in the Suning group.
“Inter were the first Italian team to play in China back in 1978. In Beijing, new signing from Brescia Evaristo Beccalossi debuted while Sandro Mazzola returned to the field after quitting the game for a year. Inter won that game 3-1.
“These days, Luciano Spalletti’s Inter is Chinese in the spirit of endurance and their tactical socialism. There is no prominent individuality, particularly in the midfield where they impose their strength as a group and the team have a never say die attitude.
“Milan in Chinese is written with two ideograms: one represents rice, their most important food, the other the orchid, the most beautiful flower. It is an act of love for the city that now returns with the gift of the derby.”
